AI Act in Practice – Lecture by Aleksandra Maciejewicz at AI Startups Hunt

During the event The Foundation: AI Startups Hunt, organized by the Polish Development Fund in cooperation with Artur Kurasiński and Venture Café, Aleksandra Maciejewicz – a lawyer from our law firm – delivered a lecture on the practical aspects of the upcoming AI Act regulation. The event was part of an open educational series aimed at startups developing artificial intelligence technologies.

Aleksandra Maciejewicz’s lecture provided a comprehensive introduction to the AI Act as a new EU regulation governing the deployment, use, and oversight of AI systems. Our lawyer discussed in detail the key elements of the regulation, including:

• the timeline for the entry into force of various provisions (2025–2027),
  
  
• prohibited AI practices (e.g., behavioral manipulation, social scoring, remote biometric identification),
  
  
• obligations of providers and users of high-risk AI systems,
  
  
• criteria for classifying a system as AI and as high-risk AI,
  
  
• obligations for providers of general-purpose AI models (GPAI), including transparency requirements for training data,
  
  
• sanctions for violations of the regulations.
  
  

Aleksandra Maciejewicz also emphasized the practical importance of distinguishing between commercial and research activities, personal and professional use, as well as the significance of the so-called "grandfathering" clause.

The lecture also covered regulatory challenges related to deepfakes, the requirement to label synthetic content, and the functioning of regulatory sandboxes, which can support startups in testing new solutions under controlled-risk conditions.
